1U & 3U Eurorack Modules • Re: Replacing an encoder on a Zadar

Reviving this thread as my Zadar encoder has gotten the wonky problem. I would not imagine there is an economical fix for this out of warranty? I am not a DIYer.
You should start by contacting Xaoc support. I would inquire how much they would charge to do the repairs out of warranty, and you'll have to pay for round-trip shipping too. Then you could look into doing what I did: buy the encoders from Xaoc and have a local electronics repair person fix it for you.

I'm guessing I could have saved money by shipping the module to Xaoc and having them fix it, maybe because I live in California and everything is expensive. For reference, the local person charged me $100 to do the repair. I bought 5 encoders from Xoac, in case there was any issue with one of them (there wasn't). 5 encoders with shipping from Europe cost $40 (IIRC they charged 5 EUR per encoder, which might be a bit pricey, but I wasn't about to try to source the parts myself). So I spent about $140 total to get it repaired. But that's ok: with tax and shipping, it would cost over $400 to completely replace the module with a new one, so I focus on the fact that I saved a lot of money. Image may be NSFW.

If I hadn't convinced myself I would learn to DIY and repair it myself, I probably would have just sent it to Xaoc. I bet it would be easier and cheaper, but if you can find a local repair person you trust, it might be worth comparing the cost. And I suppose I appreciate finding this local contact who I could ask to repair, say, my original Mutable Instruments modules if they have problems one day. It's reassuring to know I can maintain this equipment for the long-term.
