1U & 3U Eurorack Modules • Rings 4 voice polyphonic drone

Hi guys

I have a 208hp case designed for evolving ambient pieces and drones. I've been really digging pretty sounding polyphonic drones recently but I'm lacking any naturally polyphonic modules in my case. To avoid the GAS and buy a new module dedicated to this, I've been trying to see how I can better utilise the modules I already have to achieve the same sound (after all I've got a number of oscillators, samplers and granulators in the case and this is modular after all so there are definitely options!).

One things I've been exploring a bit more of is the polyphonic mode on Rings with the dampening turned right up which I've had some good results from. What I'd like to do though is smooth out the sound a little bit and avoid the attack at the start of the "strum". I've been playing around instead with the audio input, sending a smoother shaped noise into the input through a VCA modulated by an envelope, and then send v/oct sequence into rings to let a kind of chord ring out

It sounds nice but I don't think I'm quite getting the results I want. What is have in mind is something more similar to the 4ms Spectral Multiband Resonator with the level of each band being slowly modulated in and out.

Does anyone think this kind of sound is achievable on Rings? Has anyone got any tips on using Rings as a polyphonic drone? Which resonator types to use? Which knob positions?

Thanks in advance for your help?

Kind regards
Freddie
