2mm aluminium doesn't have much torsional rigidity. With the proposed method you'd need to ensure that the wooden structure has the strength and not rely on the base plate. I've constructed my keyboards with a plywood base and had no problems at all. Over the years I've used various methods to join the sides etc together - in the 70s all I had were very few hand tools so used plastic angle blocks and glue. Now I have a biscuit joiner, router bench and an assortment of power tools, but still use the same basic method of starting with a plywood base. If I can, I use baltic birch ply but more often than not it's what's to hand.
