1U & 3U Eurorack Modules • Re: Stolperbeats by Making Sound Machines

I thought it was full of mainly one person with problems. I think it’s great.
More than one person has had problems, though others I know of either stay quiet or have given up and sold the module. Its various firmware versions have had one problem or another for over a year straight, and those problems have quite often made the module not play well with others, especially in scenarios where it isn't the master clock.

Stolperbeats is a great module idea, and a mostly-great module in execution, but IMHO it still isn't quite ready for primetime and, yet, its makers frankly seem to have become very much focused on Plinky (and/or other endeavours) rather than fixing it.

For anyone thinking of buying Stolperbeats, I should just mention two things (aside from long-standing clock/reset problems which should be clear to people who have read this thread) to bear in mind:
  • There is (or at least was) no continuous adjustment between its levels of swing, and there really should be. [NB: Not only that, but also (and almost more critically, and sorry for not describing this properly before this edit) in the sense that you can't (or at least couldn't) choose one of its kinds of swing and then control the degree to which (or strength with which) it is applied to the pattern. It's all or nothing.]
  • Playback is great but on-panel editing is so clunky that the recommended process is to create MIDI clips in the DAW and import them. I really wish I were kidding, I really do. If I'm going to edit MIDI in the DAW, I can just sequence from the DAW where there are even more powerful options for swing, groove, etc.
