Indeed the 5th & 7th Beethoven symphonies the Kleiber did for Deutsche Grammophon are renowned classics.

For the most part you can't go wrong with any of these Beethoven symphonic cycles:

If you want full-fat Beethoven:
    • Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt - Wiener Philharmoniker - Decca 1960s
    • Rudolf Kempe - Münchner Philharmoniker - EMI 1970s
    • Herbert Von Karajan -1963 (for a beautiful M/S Stereo in the Jesus-Christus-Kirche) & DG 1977 (lush multi mic setup at the Philharmonie). In both instances you get the magnificent Klang of the Berliner Philharmoniker at the height of their powers.
If you want period practice with fewer symphonic forces, but no anaemia or puritanism:
    • Frans Brüggen - Orchestra Of The 18th Century - Philips 1980s
