1U & 3U Eurorack Modules • Re: Perfect crystal distortion module

I am a big fan of running a kick through the Bastl Dark Matter
Got a demo of that? Hard to find anything on YT regarding kicks. Thanks man.
hey,
i use my Plasma Drive exclusively for snare/claps.
That's the only source for me when it shines.
only 5%-10% wet effect. A little bit.
It makes the highs so crunchy and powerfull.
I didn't like it on other sounds. I find it smears too much.
These Noise Engineering Modules like Kith Ruina are cool but very decent and have a typical sound.
For your question:
I bought the new Ohmicide Distortion and the Orobas V2 from Schneidersladen/Berlin.
They will arrive the next days. I think those Modules will cover what i want.More fresh and direkt transy-power Disto....
Check out Youtube.
Don't forget to check on Youtube the new Cosmotronic Aphelion which is coming. New at Supwrbooth 24....
That's right, too much smearing on that Plasma Drive, not worth leaving it with that footprint on my rack since I have only 10U available. A tube would probably work the same way on trebles and it also glows (but yeah, no way near as cool as a plasma arc, that's correct but we ain't lighting designers or are we). I ordered the Ruina Versio and it should be in the mail today, however yes, having second thoughts now since I remembered about valve amps. Now, Ohm Force was indeed one of my favorite brand when it came to boutique plugins back in the days but the Ohmicide was not the one I was using for distortion, I would prefer QUadrafuzz, the Ohm Boys the one I was obsessed with and was using it on voice samples and synths. However in those days (late 90s, early 2000s), since the sampler was in fame, my bass drums were already pre designed and would not take the time I do now by designing them since now I own an analogue kick drum generator. Cosmotronic looks really interesting though but thing is, the demos are only using that one house music loop on it, and yes it does have all the bells and whistles I would like to play with.

Demo bro?
Well… Plasma Drive isn’t gonna give you the kind of distortion you’re thinking of. This one is entirely its own thing. If you’re into Powernoise and such, this is the thing for you.
It does great on synth sounds. As you noted it will completely obliterate transients. But, try pushing an entire drum mix through it, and that distorted mess just takes on a life of its own, living breathing, mocking you…
But I digress. For the stuff you’re looking for, look at animal factory amplification stuff. Godeater is designed to keep the low end, plus the mix knob is very handy.
Like I said before man, Animal Factory is marketed for guitar players who wants to sound different. Their Eurorack products are just the exact same that the ones they engineered for guitars. I hear you that the Godeater correlates with a beyond satisfaction level with synths but I believe it's accidental (I did try at least 3 of their units)
+1 to the mini drive! The MTM drive modules are one of the best values in eurorack, imo. I’ve built 2 and I always keep a bit of Twin Drive in my FX chains. The thing with the Mini Drive where you patch one output into the other input. There isn’t much of a sweet spot before it descends into chaos, but it sounds incredible when you can find it. Plus incandescent bulbs look amazing, imo.
Other honourable mentions: the Bastl Buddy mixer has a pretty excellent feedback circuit built in. Ditto with the fair field horsdoeuvres. And if you’re into pedals, there are a million billion nuanced variations to look at. guitarists cork sniff about distortions and overdrives the way we synthesists go on and on about different filters.
There are swee spots on the Twin Drive, but since it's a loop, response is exponential, therefore yes indeed, it would be interesting to have another knob with a lesser impedance and another that allows you to select the area you wish to "zoom" in, in order to explore more of it, as my goal is to play live with my set, I don't really see this work without any modifications done to it. Yes I'm thinking about pedals, some can be retrofitted into a module (I prefer staying nice and compact) but for now, I'll explore what's available in the format we know as eurorack. Would explore pedals later but since the choice of them is immense, I keep this option as a plab B.
Skull & Circuits Trialogue could suit your need. Having a multiband distortion makes a ton of sense when dealing with kicks.
Yeah man, why not. Sounds pretty good. However, since it's virtually impossible to find a second hand Ruina Versio (or any Versio whatsoever) on the market, and from the fact that their pricing is rather on the highest, my instinct (yes it failed me many times but also delivered many times) is telling me that I must own this one for a while at least, just to play.
