I dislike shimmer reverb in most cases, but every once in a while I find an acceptable use for it.
I freaking love reverb though, if it's the right one. NI Raum and Valhalla Room since the update that added a low cut and a feedback loop on the predelay and early reflections, basically will always work for me. Desmodus, Beads, Mimeophon, and Aberrant Audio Lair often are good to me as well. Spring reverbs are more situational, but I like Dreadbox Hypnosis since you also get the stereo chorus and delay in front, and can modulate the reverb predelay to make it all drunk and woozy... really have to watch levels though unless you just want to intentionally overdrive it.
I also love delays. All kinds of delays.
I've come around a little on flanging and phasing -- judicious use can work well. Still, most of the time I'd rather modulate a peak/notch EQ's frequency, or use chorus. And better than chorus is unison detuned oscillators, or slightly off-ratio FM/AM.
I overdid bitcrushing and sample rate reduction early in my in-the-box days and got kind of sick of it, but again, with some moderation it can be really useful... in modular especially.
Distortion into a filter makes me happy. Playing with intermodulation distortion on chords/duophonic parts, harmonic oscillators, or inharmonic timbres is especially fun.
