5U Format Modules • 5U Newbie questions

Hello Guys.

I'm totally new to 5U and would like to ask you a few questions if I may.

• Concerning the front panels, is it compulsory to have a U-shaped profile with folded edges or is it only for the reproduction of MOOG modules?

• Is a “simple”, unfolded aluminum front acceptable?

• What is the maximum size of a PCB? What top and bottom margins (clearence) must be respected?

• Is a populated PCB with all components, sockets and buttons attached directly to the front panel (as with 3U) acceptable?

• Is it absolutely necessary for PCBs containing electronic parts to be placed perpendicular to the front panel?
