1U & 3U Eurorack Modules • Re: Long term value of Eurorack

The M1 was iconic - one of the earliest workstations. It looked pretty cool too. But as a digital device, it's power was constrained by the processor and memory limitations of its day. I owned one for a couple of years and found it really useful.

Most of my euro is doepfer - through hole technology, very few digital modules. These modules should remain serviceable as long as their constituent parts are available. I guess it will hold its value pretty well, but it's real value emerges when I manage to extract some interesting music from it. That doesn't happen as often as I would like, but that's down to my limitations rather than the equipment.

I guess my point is that if we buy on the basis of something's musical potential, it shouldn't matter so much if its market value goes up or down. Does the purchase musically inspire or help produce music? If we buy something as a financial asset / investment, then that's a very different discussion.
