I stumbled into some pretty convincing bird chirps when I was trying out my SSF Quantum Rainbow II for the first time. The "quanta" output (which is essentially lots of random triggers) patched into an envelope generator with just decay, and then into the FM of a self-oscillating filter, I think I was using my Borg. The combination of the slew-y vactrol pitching and tempering the spiky random triggers into envelopes really did the trick.

(Warning, potentially loud raw modular audio.) I think the most convincing parts are at about 0:30 and 2:30. It also devolved into tire screeching at some points.
