Well ... the whole process is simplier than you thought, it is just the layering process is quite tedious.

Some of the common technique including:

• Short Rhythmic Clicks

• Audio to Sub-audio Kicks

• Panning & Spreading Sine wave with delay & reverb

• Phasing effect by mixing two sine waves that is asynchronous , but very close in frequency
