So I'm starting to zero in on getting my drum sounds dialed in, which I've been neglecting in an endlessly deep dive on droning, texture etc. And I've come to a conclusion for me at least, that I am actually not all that worried at what I feed my VCAs for drum sounds. Anything can be a kick, snare, high hat or clap if it sits in the right frequency range and you aren't trying to recreate the physical sound so much as something that can stand in for that sound in any way. That's part of the fun at least to me.

But what I think is important is the envelope of that sound. So for some of you drum enthusiasts, what are you using to generate these envelopes?

I've decided to check out a 3310 based envelope based on it's punch for kicks. Have a Roland System 100 envelope already that will do great for snare duties, but still wondering what I should use for symbol\high hat type sounds. I can use anything, but wondering if there are any tricks or modules that sit just right for you guys.

Me personally, I'm not really into the "traditional drum machine" sounds. The 808\909 etc type sounds. I do like taking sounds that aren't really typical for drum machine sounds and putting them in that place. Sort of a "west coast" type approach (not technically, but sound wise). But I do again still think the envelopes are important.
