I saw the JHS Tacobolt video yesterday and thought it was amusing. Like most guitarists, I certainly don't need another distortion pedal, and they are all starting to seem the same. The thing about the demo of this pedal though, was that I actually liked it. I liked that it was clean and bright at low dynamic, and then went sort of wobbly and cloudy at higher dynamic. I thought it was a nice change from the aggressive aesthetic of most pedals. So my immediate thought was about what pedals might be similar. They kept saying that it was to do with a bias adjustment, but I don't think that is a consistently defined term in every circuit.

After a bit of hunting around, I landed on a couple of Fairfield Circuitry pedals, the ~900, and the Barbershop:

From the demos of these, it may get that sound by turning down the bias control?

Any other suggestions.

I'm only interested in the sound and would like to not raise any of the other stuff about JHS, or their image, which has been done elsewhere already.
