General Gear • Re: Question about playing in a band

I would recommend using an amp purely for the monitoring aspect. I play synth bass in a band and the few times I've attempted to just DI at gigs, I ended up not being able to hear myself. Most of the places I've played have DI boxes before they have decent stage monitors, lol.
So basically if they have DI boxes, I would just need 1/4" cables? I suppose an extra one as well, to come out of the DI box, if I use an amp for keyboard.
Do you have a bass amp with a 15 laying around? That might get you through for while. I'm interested in what people suggest for keyboard amps too.
I actually just tried some stuff that I have at home, not too loud because it's after midnight.

12" ported bass cab: sounded terrible. Tried it with a bass head and an Orange Micro Terror. I need a lot of treble, I generally play higher notes. Also the bass head needs bass levels, keyboard level is too loud for it.

10" guitar cab: sounded fabulous with the Micro Terror. Used the mp3/CD input to get a clean sound, the tone and gain knobs are inactive with this input, but it sounded great.

10" cab also sounds very interesting through the guitar input. Gain set very low, there is still a bit of valve distortion, but very pleasant. Not the sound I'm looking for, but very nice.

Bass head sounded just as lousy through the 10" cab, and you could hear even more noise, especially through the return input, when all the controls on the amp are inactive.

Have an open back 15" cab somewhere else, it's pretty bright, might try that with the Micro Terror some time as well.

However, I could probably take the monitor from the rehearsal room as well. But it's extremely bulky, and probably heavy as well.

Also there is the problem of drum machine amplification.
How about something like this for drum machine and keys?
Peavey KB 4 - 75W 15" Keyboard Amp
