the same kind of thing certainly happens with other manufacturers. For instance Fender released their Kevin Shields fuzz pedal in limited quantities; asking for more $$ than a fuzz pedal should cost. aaaand six months later you can buy one for a more typical boutique fuzz pedal price. How do you think the early adopters felt about this?
I was one of the exact sorts of people that Fender was marketing to, with the initial limited run deluxe package Shields Blender. At that time, had seriously been considering pulling the trigger, based on the fun demo vids.

Glad I didn't. Later picked up a Shields Blender at a somewhat normal price for an advanced fuzz. It is a truly great fuzz, btw. Lots and lots of varied tones and textures.

I'm not seeing the initial limited edition versions sell for as much money as they had been, previous to the standard version coming out. Not surprising. That's how markets work. Supply and demand, modulated by social buzz.

I don't blame Fender, as they had no idea whether this pedal would sell well, and the Fender Blender is one of the few legendary-ish notable stomp pedals that Fender is known for. They were going to have to make the most of whatever happened.

Relative to the original poster's complaint:

If you are doing active speculation in a market context, no one owes you anything, other than what mutually signed contracts say. Speculation *is* risk, that's the whole point. And the very same dynamics that make later profit possible, are the same dynamics that make some risks underperform or completely fail.

I'm not a capitalist, but I am under no illusions when I buy/sell that perceived value is ever something that can be completely safetied. It can't. Life entails risk and uncertainty.

You can't take any of the gear or cash with you when you die, anyway. So enjoy the toys while you can, don't stress on matters that can't be controlled.
