1U & 3U Eurorack Modules • Re: Animal Factory Tannhäuser Gates

Coming back here after ages, since we've been ruminating about the future of Tannhäuser Gates...

Upon hindsight, I feel that Tannhäuser Gates was designed as an irreverent Buchla 110-ish discrete VCA first and then got the mixer and expander treatment. It is slightly confused about what it fundamentally is.
As a first expander module, I would do pan CV and send/return control per channel. So you have full control over all parameters.
The panning on the Tannhäuser Gates is very simple single potentiometer crossfading. Placing it under pan control is not possible UNLESS the output is taken out from a separate module - that can totally be done.

Aux Insert/Send/Return for sure!
Another question, is the signal routing clean, i.e. without bleeding? If you want to make a nice clean and clear mix.....
I would have to objectively measure this - I haven't noticed any bleed or crosstalk between channels, but I usually work with unapologetic amounts of filth and gain that I would not be completely confident to make any grand claims either Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
The module was designed with a lot of buffers (input and output) between stages to keep crosstalk to a minimum. The individual VCA circuit areas also have physical separation and separated ground planes

I could probably feed a couple of 10V waveforms to the inputs and scope the outputs of the individual VCAs to see how much it actually is. I'll write back here.

Lastly, I'll open a topic in the AFA sub-forum dedicated to this, including the pinout scheme of the expanders. Cheers!

Aditya
