Well you all already know this, but what a pleasure this drum machine is. I am just dropping down a pad a chord and an off beat hat in the DAW and then building a kit and pattern, copying them and changing them up a little. From there I can get a pretty nice bare bones arrangement. I do a few run throughs jamming on the Perkons and drop markers and a riser sample where I want to make some pattern changes and then just do a live take and record all 4 outs while vibing out and working the knobs.

At first I was using the cherry keys set to fast mute, but I love the freedom to just hit a trigger and drop a kick or clap in now and then. I do that with the sequencer to, just hitting a trigger and then killing it after it sounds. Of course I also use the Odds as well, so it just gives me that little extra bit of human feel to trigger some things live when it feels right.

Exactly like recording an instrument- I do some quick editing and then I already have the foundation of an arrangement already laid down. From there I have been adding another take out of the master out so I can use delay for throws. I think one track with the delay is perfect because the delay has a lot of character to it.

Only thing I struggle with is when I hold shift and do control all modulations or do plocks, sometimes I forget where the knobs were set originally. Not sure if that makes sense. I have the knobs set to not snap to the setting right away, and they only change after I tweak them. That may be throwing me off, but im not sure thats the issue. Its probably just going to take practice, but I already feel like I am real solid with at least 60% of this machine. The rest is really learning what each module can do sound-wise. I spent a ton of time with module 2 as a my synthy source and recorded some decent background sounds. But nothing really great yet with that voice. Maybe next track Ill use that one as the kick and see what I can get out of voice 1. The snares and slaps are incredible on 3 and I really like the hats on 4. It's a huge advantage to just ride the decay on the hats and constantly let them bloom and then tighten up. This is stuff that can be done in the DAW, of course, but something about having the hardware right there and recording right into audio really gets me focused and creating movement that is more in the groove.

Also, the groove settings are incredible. Really can change the feel of the hats so nicely. Anyway, like I said, you all know this stuff. I'm just really happy with this thing so far. And I'm making more slow deep house than fast techno and it still fits the genre really well.

Paired with my moog slim phatty, the result is a super warm rhythm section and foundation. It will definitely need some processing, but like and great drum machine, the core sounds are already there, and ready to be molded.
