Thanks. Starlab seems to have pretty substantial gain and SNR, so I haven't found the need to boost the signal fortunately. The desk doesn't have a dedicated FX return, so I've been using a regular channel strip anyway. Glad to know I'm on the right trackI do this! You might want to consider boosting the signal coming out from the aux send, depending on what audio source you're feeding to your modular. (Edit: I now see that this already has been suggested!)
Also, if you have available channels, route the effect return to a channel strip instead of the effects return input. That way you'll enable all the possibilities available on the strip, such as EQ and/or sending your returning signal to yet another effect.
