I repeat what I said because it may not have been clear. I've always had my output amp levels at almost 7. I don't have any particular noise concerns. I balance with the rest. I know that it is advisable to maintain at 5, Sandro told me so and I have read the different manuals.Keep the level at the output amps around 5 not the modules levels. To get a balanced patch you have to find the correct signal-to-noise ratio. Its similar to a synthi but a portabella is more difficult to handle because it has twice the power.Do you find that you get an adequate signal level for recording when everything is at 5? I've found that I then need to crank up my preamp's gain to compensate, which in turn also raises the noise floor. Pretty sure I can live with it though especially since I enjoy the signal being a bit saturated by the various stages. But I am curious whether others are able to get an adequate level with everything at 5.from one of PIN emails I got
- do not turn the volume of the output amps above 5 - to avoid clipping and noise.
- same for module levels, if you want a smooth sound and processing keep the levels at '5'.
