for side chaining against an external audio trigger to create a ducking effect, just mult the signal you want to trigger the compressor (such as a kick drum) to the return. for frequency dependent compression, use both the send and return to hook up an external EQ (such as the PEQ!), and boost the frequency you want to trigger the compression on the EQ. patching a delay will simply cause "the past" to compress the present, so to speak. with a very short delay time, however, you can imitate slower feedback style compression. for true feedback compression, mult the output of the compressor to the return-- you want the *already compressed* signal to feed the side chain in that case. now raising the make up gain causes more compression! (i like feedback compression a lot)

since the SComp already has high and low pass filters on the side chain signal, it is already very versatile for setting up frequency dependent compression.

an interesting idea ive never tried-- send the sidechain to another compressor or even a limiter with heavy reduction settings. this should get you closer to RMS compression instead of peak compression. meaning the RMS of the audio is triggering the compressor, instead of the transients/peaks. good for smooth and slow "leveling".
Awesome! Thanks for the ideas. So by sending that signal out and increasing the gain on the specific frequency with an external source and returning that back to the sidechain will better dial in where the compression is effecting?
