This is a piece of gear that I have debated on getting since it first came out. My goal was to get all three Moog modules in the series. The draw for the Subharmonicon for me is that it is different. A collection of small individual parts tied together with a unique sequencing system. I have the DFAM, and while I give Moog props for creating something unique, I really prefer using a Plaits along with a dual channel sequencer, one channel for note and rhythm, and the second channel for selecting the sound in Plaits. I have not turned my DFAM on in months.
So those of you with a Subharmonicon, or those who have owned one in the past, do you consider it essential and irreplaceable? Is the trio something that you will keep forever? Or is the Subharmonicon a device that originally thrilled you but eventually felt limited? A good idea that can be pushed further by building your own version with Eurorack modules? If you replaced it with Eurorack modules what did you use? Especially the sequencer?
