General Gear • Re: Roland E4 MIDI Question

Do you own that thing? How good is the formant feature? Can it simulate a different voice/gender well? Is the vocoder good, or do you prefer other vocoders?
Yes! I do own it. The sound of formant, vocoding, and autopitch are pretty stellar honestly. Most plugins I've used required a lot of finesse to make them sound decent, but the E4 sounds great pretty immediately and with little fuss. I only recently started using it as an effects processor on samples and other sounds recently - which is how I got to my questions about MIDI control over it's parameters. It features a slicer feature, a looper, and a multi effect that defaults to reverb, but can also be a (great) chorus, a delay, etc.

What's especially impressive is the harmonize feature which creates auto chords based on a selected key. It also accepts MIDI into the vocoder pitch as well. It's certainly one of the most impressive feature sets I've encountered for such a low price point.
Been interested in getting one of these as a fx processor/ audio interface for a mono synth in a small portable live setup, it really does sound excellent to my ears..

So whilst here can it run all the fx (rev, dl, chs) simultaneously?
is sterio input only via USB?
and lastly (considering how inexpensive these are) how do you rate it as audio interface compared to more expensive options?..I mean is it transparent and clear, does it retain full frequency spectrum, as at this price "subconsciously" one kind of expects the usual loss in low end and dull mids and muffly top end ..like most audio i/o +preamp in this price range.
